Laser reconstruction of intervertebral discs (LRD)
Laser reconstruction operation description in patients with intervertebral disc bulge
The goal of the laser reconstruction operation, which is performed to the patient with disc protrusion, is the therapeutic effect on the collapsing tissues of the intervertebral disc. During this procedure, a special light guide is inserted into the intervertebral disc, followed by laser irradiation of the disc tissues. From the received thermal energy there is a response of tissues of a disk which is shown in the form of improvement of a local metabolism (from the adjacent vertebrae endplates).
Laser reconstruction of intervertebral discs (LRD) contributes to the further restoration of the disc with the elimination of its protrusion into the spinal canal. Laser reconstruction of intervertebral discs (LRD) performed on the cervical, thoracic or lumbar spine levels.

In this intervention, the length of the patient's stay in the hospital is limited to several hours.
This technique of treatment is increasingly used in the treatment of intervertebral disc protrusion. In most cases of these interventions local anesthesia is applied, which does not harm the entire body, as is often the case with general anesthesia. After such treatment the patient will only have to undergo a course of rehabilitation which takes 1-2 weeks.
Laser reconstruction operation is not effective in the case of sequestered disc herniation, or rupture of the posterior longitudinal ligament with hernial protrusion. Medical tactics are decided by a neurosurgeon on the basis of the evaluation of the neurological symptoms and the patient's spine MRI.
