Bepreve

Bepreve (bepotastine besilate) Ophthalmic Solution is an antihistamine used to treat itching of the eyes due to allergies. Bepreve is available in generic form. Common side effects of Bepreve include:

• an unusual or unpleasant taste in the mouth,
• headache,
• eye irritation,
• stuffy nose, and
• sore throat.

Tell your doctor if you experience side effects of an allergic reaction to Bepreve including:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing, or
• swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Tell your doctor immediately if you have severe eye irritation when using Bepreve eye drops. A very serious allergic reaction to Bepreve is rare. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), dizziness, or trouble breathing.

The recommended dosage of Bepreve is one drop into the affected eye twice a day. Other drugs may interact with Bepreve. Tell your doctor all medications you take. Do not use Bepreve while you are wearing contact lenses. Do not allow the dropper to touch any surface, including the eyes or hands. If you are pregnant only use Bepreve if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Exercise caution if you use Bepreve while breastfeeding.

Clinical Trials Experience

Because clinical trials are conducted under widely varying conditions, adverse reaction rates observed in the clinical trials of a drug cannot be directly compared to rates in the clinical trials of another drug and may not reflect the rates observed in clinical practice.

The most common reported adverse reaction occurring in approximately 25% of subjects was a mild taste following instillation. Other adverse reactions occurring in 2-5% of subjects were eye irritation, headache, and nasopharyngitis.

Post-Marketing Experience

Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported rarely during the post-marketing use of BEPREVE. Because these reactions are reported voluntarily from a population of unknown size, it is not always possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure. The hypersensitivity reactions may include itching, body rash, and swelling of lips, tongue and/or throat.
