What Is Corphedra?

Corphedra (ephedrine sulfate injection), for intravenous use is an alpha- and beta-adrenergic agonist and a norepinephrine-releasing agent indicated for the treatment of clinically important hypotension occurring in the setting of anesthesia.

What Are Side Effects of Corphedra?

Common side effects of Corphedra include:

  • nausea,
  • vomiting, and
  • fast heart rate.

Dosage for Corphedra

The dose of Corphedra to treat hypotension developing during anesthesia is a bolus intravenous injection of 5 to 10 mg as needed, not to exceed 50 mg.

What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Corphedra?

Corphedra may interact with clonidine, oxytocin and oxytocic drugs, propofol, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), atropine, alpha-blockers, beta blockers, reserpine, quinidine, mephentermine, guanethidine, rocuronium, epidural anesthesia, theophylline, and cardiac glycosides. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.

Corphedra During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Corphedra; it is unknown how it will affect a fetus. It is unknown if Corphedra passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Gastrointestinal disorders: Nausea, vomiting

Cardiac disorders: Tachycardia, palpitations (thumping heart), reactive hypertension, bradycardia, ventricular ectopics, R-R variability

Nervous system disorders: Dizziness

Psychiatric disorders: Restlessness
