What Is Synvisc-One?

Synvisc-One (hylan G-F 20) is similar to a substance that occurs naturally in the joints that acts as a lubricant, and is used to treat knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. Synvisc-One is usually given after other arthritis medications have been tried without successful treatment of symptoms.

What Are Side Effects of Synvisc-One?

Common side effects of Synvisc-One include:

• injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness, warmth, stiffness, puffiness, or bruising),
• headache,
• muscle pain,
• trouble walking,
• fever,
• chills,
• nausea,
• numbness or tingly feeling,
• dizziness,
• tired feeling, or
• itching or skin irritation around the knee.

Tell your doctor if you have serious side effects of Synvisc-One including:

• back pain,
• severe headache, or
• fast or pounding heartbeat.

Dosage for Synvisc-One

Synvisc-One is given as an injection into your knee. Your doctor will determine the dose.

What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Synvisc-One?

Synvisc-One may interact with other drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.

Synvisc-One During Pregnancy or Breastfeeding

During pregnancy, Synvisc-One should be used only if prescribed. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Synvisc-One Consumer Information

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have severe pain or swelling around the knee after the injection.

Common side effects may include:

• warmth, redness, pain, stiffness, swelling, or puffiness where the medicine was injected;
• muscle pain, trouble walking;
• fever, chills, nausea;
• prickly feeling in your skin;
• headache, dizziness; or
• itching or skin irritation around the knee.

Potential Adverse Effects Of The Device On Health

Reported Device-Related Adverse Events

The most commonly reported adverse events associated with Synvisc-One are the following:

• Arthralgia
• Arthritis
• Arthropathy
• Injection site pain
• Joint effusion

Potential Adverse Events

The following adverse events are among those that may occur in association with intra-articular injections, including Synvisc-One

• Arthralgia
• Joint stiffness
• Joint effusion
• Joint swelling
• Joint warmth
• Injection site pain
• Arthritis
• Arthropathy
• Gait disturbance

Post-marketing Experience

SYNVISC® (3-injection regimen) post-marketing experience has identified the following systemic events to occur rarely with administration: rash, hives, itching, fever, nausea, headache, dizziness, chills, muscle cramps, paresthesia, peripheral edema, malaise, respiratory difficulties, flushing and facial swelling. There have been rare reports of thrombocytopenia coincident with SYNVISC (3-injection regimen) injection.

Hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylactic reaction, anaphylactoid reaction, anaphylactic shock and angioedema have been reported.
