Xiidra (lifitegrast ophthalmic solution) and Restasis (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) are used to treat the signs and symptoms of chronic dry eyes.

Xiidra and Restasis belong to different drug classes. Xiidra is a lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) antagonist and Restasis is an immunosuppressive agent.

Side effects of Xiidra and Restasis that are similar include eye irritation or discomfort and blurred vision.

Side effects of Xiidra that are different from Restasis include changes in taste.

Side effects of Restasis that are different from Xiidra include eye burning, redness, tearing, discharge, pain, itching, stinging, and feeling as if something is in the eye.

Xiidra may interact with other drugs.

Restasis may interact with other eye drops or medications.

Common side effects of Xiidra include:

• changes in taste, and
• blurred vision

Common side effects of Restasis include:

• eye burning,
• redness,
• tearing,
• discharge,
• pain,
• itching,
• stinging,
• visual blurring, or
• feeling as if something is in the eye.

Serious side effects are not expected to occur during treatment with Restasis.

Xiidra (lifitegrast ophthalmic solution) 5%, for topical ophthalmic use is a lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) antagonist indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED).

Restasis (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) is an immunosuppressive agent used to treat chronic dry eye that may be caused by inflammation.

Xiidra may interact with other drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. During pregnancy, Xiidra should be used only if prescribed; it is unknown if it would affect a fetus. It is unknown if Xiidra passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Do not use other eye drops or medications during treatment with Restasis unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Do not use Restasis while wearing contact lenses. It is not known whether Restasis will be harmful to a fetus. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether Restasis passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

The dose of Xiidra is one drop twice daily in each eye (approximately 12 hours apart). Contact lenses should be removed prior to administration of Xiidra and can be reinserted 15 minutes after administration.

Restasis is an eye drop dosed in single-use vials used twice/day or as directed.
