Vimovo (naproxen and esomeprazole magnesium) and Anaprox (naproxen) are used to treat signs and symptoms of arthritis.

Vimovo is also used to treat ankylosing spondylitis and forms of arthritis when there is a high risk for stomach bleeding/ulcer.

Anaprox is also used to treat inflammatory diseases such as tendonitis, bursitis, and gout.

Vimovo and Anaprox both contain a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Vimovo also contains a proton pump inhibitor (PPI).

Side effects of Vimovo and Anaprox that are similar include upset stomach, stomach/abdominal pain, heartburn, nausea, gas, diarrhea, constipation, and dizziness.

Side effects of Vimovo that are different from Anaprox include drowsiness.

Side effects of Anaprox that are different from Vimovo include bloating, nervousness, skin rash, headache, blurred vision, ringing in your ears, and itching.

Both Vimovo and Anaprox may interact with antidepressants, blood thinners, lithium, and steroids.

Vimovo may also interact with amphetamines, oral bisphosphonates, anti-platelet drugs, clopidogrel, HIV drugs, probenecid, digoxin, azole antifungals, iron supplements, other products containing naproxen, and other proton pump inhibitors.

Anaprox may also interact with methotrexate, diuretics (water pills), aspirin or other NSAIDs, and heart or blood pressure medications.

Side effects of Vimovo include:

• upset stomach,

• gas,

• constipation,
• drowsiness, or
• dizziness.

Tell your doctor if you have serious side effects of Vimovo including:

• easy bruising or bleeding,
• lightheadedness,
• fainting,
• signs of a lung infection (such as fever, cough, trouble breathing),
• difficult or painful swallowing,
• swelling of the hands or feet,
• sudden or unexplained weight gain,
• symptoms of a low magnesium blood level (such as unusually fast/slow/irregular heartbeat, or persistent muscle spasms, seizures).

Common side effects of Naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox, Naprosyn) include:

• heartburn,
• stomach or abdominal pain,
• upset stomach,
• nausea,
• diarrhea,
• constipation,
• bloating,
• gas,
• dizziness,
• nervousness,
• skin rash,
• headache,
• blurred vision,
• ringing in your ears, and
• itching.

Vimovo (naproxen and esomeprazole magnesium) is a combination of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis when there is a high risk for stomach bleeding/ulcer.

Naproxen is considered a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and is used for pain management for many diseases, arthritic diseases, and inflammatory diseases such as tendonitis, bursitis, and gout.

 

Vimovo may interact with amphetamines, oral bisphosphonates, blood thinners, anti-platelet drugs, SSRI/SNRI antidepressants, clopidogrel, corticosteroids, HIV drugs, lithium, probenecid, digoxin, azole antifungals, iron supplements, other products containing naproxen, other proton pump inhibitors. Check medicine labels as many contain pain relievers/fever reducers similar to Vimovo and may increase the risk of side effects if taken together. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you are taking.

Naproxen may interact with antidepressants, blood thinners, lithium, methotrexate, diuretics (water pills), steroids, aspirin or other NSAIDs, or heart or blood pressure medications. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Naprosyn may cause premature closing of the ductus arteriosus in the fetus and does enter breast milk; avoidance of the drug in pregnant and breastfeeding women is suggested.

The dosage of Vimovo is one tablet twice daily, 375 mg naproxen/20 mg esomeprazole or 500 mg naproxen/20 mg esomeprazole.

Naproxen is available in several doses and drug configurations; Naproxen tablets with strengths of 250, 375 and 500 mg and as an oral suspension containing 125 mg Naproxen per 5 ml of liquid, EC-Naproxen (delayed release to reduce gastric irritation) with strengths of 375 and 500 mg, Anaprox in 275 mg tablets, Anaprox DS in 550 mg tablets. Almost all Naproxen drugs are recommended to be dosed twice per day (every 12 hours) with children's doses (strength in mg per Kg) based on the child's weight, also twice a day with a maximum dose of 15 mg per Kg per day.
