Vigamox (moxifloxacin hydrochloride ophthalmic solution) and Besivance (besifloxacin) are antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes.

Side effects of Vigamox and Besivance that are similar include blurred vision and temporary eye redness/itching/pain/irritation.

Side effects of Vigamox that are different from Besivance include watery eyes (tearing) and other eye reactions (dryness, burning, and stinging).

Side effects of Besivance that are different from Vigamox include headache.

Vigamox may interact with other eye medications.

Besivance may interact with other drugs.

Common side effects of Vigamox include:

• blurred vision,
• watery eyes (tearing), and
• eye (pain, dryness, redness, itching, burning, stinging, and irritation).

Serious side effects are not expected to occur during treatment with Vigamox. Tell your doctor if you have an unlikely but serious side effect of Vigamox such as swelling of the eye.

Common side effects of Besivance include:

• temporary eye redness/itching/pain/irritation,
• temporary blurred vision, or
• headache.

Tell your doctor if you have serious side effects of Besivance including:

• drainage or crusting of your eye,
• severe eye irritation after using the eye drops,
• feeling like there is something in your eye,
• severe eye redness or swelling, or
• fever or any signs of a new infection.

It is not likely other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on Besivance used in the eyes. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, During pregnancy, Besivance should be used only when prescribed. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Do not use other eye drops or medications during treatment with Vigamox ophthalmic unless directed by your doctor. Other drugs may interact with Vigamox. Tell your doctor all prescription or over-the-counter medicines or supplements you use. Vigamox should be used only when prescribed during pregnancy. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Besivance may interact with heart medications.

Besivance may also interact with allergy treatments (or if you are undergoing allergy skin-testing), amiodarone, clonidine, digoxin, disopyramide, guanabenz, MAO inhibitors, diabetes medications, medicine for asthma or other breathing disorders, cold medicines, stimulant medicines, or diet pills.

The dose of Vigamox: Instill one drop in the affected eye 3 times a day for 7 days.

The recommended dose of Besivance is one drop instilled in the affected eye(s) 3 times a day, four to twelve hours apart for 7 days.
