Night Sweats

Night sweats themselves are a symptom of many different diseases. A condition known as idiopathic hyperhidrosis is a condition in which there is excess perspiration of unknown cause.

Signs and symptoms typically associated with night sweats depend on the underlying cause of the sweats. Associated symptoms and signs can include

  • flushing of the face or chest,
  • fever,
  • chills,
  • headache,
  • dehydration,
  • mood changes, or
  • sleep disturbances.

Causes of night sweats

Night sweats are instances of excessive sweating at night and can be caused by

  • warm sleeping conditions (high temperature or excessive bed coverings),
  • infections,
  • cancers,
  • hormonal problems,
  • hormonal changes such as menopause,
  • low blood sugar, and
  • other conditions.

Some neurologic condition can also cause night sweats. Certain medications may also cause this condition.

  • Chills
  • Dehydration
  • Fever
  • Flushing of the Face or Chest
  • Headache
  • Mood Changes
  • Sleep Disturbances
