Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is a condition in which there is inflammation in the small intestine in response to consumption of gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye.
Certain signs and symptoms of celiac disease result from the damage to the small intestine, but other symptoms and signs, like a skin rash, may also be present. Gastrointestinal symptoms of celiac disease include abdominal pain, bloating, loose stools or diarrhea, and nausea. Other associated symptoms can include fatigue, headache, joint pain, and malnutrition. Bone loss may occur due to decreased absorption of calcium and vitamin D. Anemia may result from decreased iron absorption.
Cause of celiac disease
Medical professionals believe that an autoimmune reaction causes celiac disease, and it is likely to have some genetic predisposition.
