Fibrocystic Breast Disease

Fibrocystic breast disease is a common, benign (non-cancerous) condition of the breasts that is characterized by lumpiness of the breasts. It typically affects women between 30 and 60 years of age and has been estimated to affect 60% of all women.

Signs and symptoms of fibrocystic breast disease include multiple lumps in the breasts that may be tender or painful. The lumpiness is due to both small benign breast masses and small cysts. The signs and symptoms vary widely in severity among affected women and may change with the menstrual cycle. Fibrocystic breast disease is now usually called fibrocystic breast condition.

Cause of fibrocystic breast disease

Medical professionals believe that hormonal fluctuations cause the condition, and it usually improves after menopause.
