Angina
Angina is a term that refers to the symptom of heart pain that is related to a reduction in delivery of required oxygen to the muscles of the heart.
Signs and symptoms of angina are sometimes described differently by different people. These descriptions of symptoms include chest pain that may be felt as fullness, crushing, burning, squeezing, heaviness, or a dull ache. The symptoms are often brought on by exercise or exertion. Other associated symptoms and signs can include
- pain in the jaw, teeth, or neck;
- dizziness;
- fatigue;
- inability to exercise;
- lightheadedness;
- sweating;
- heartburn;
- indigestion;
- nausea;
- rapid breathing;
- shortness of breath; and
- anxiety.
Causes of angina
Inadequate blood flow to the heart muscle causes angina. Coronary artery disease is most often the cause of angina.
