Quelicin, Anectine vs. Vecuronium Bromide

Are Quelicin, Anectine and Vecuronium Bromide the Same Thing?

Quelicin and Anectine (succinylcholine chloride) and vecuronium bromide are used as adjuncts to general anesthesia to facilitate tracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation.

  • Quelicin and Anectine and vecuronium bromide belong to different drug classes. Quelicin and Anectine are short-acting depolarizing skeletal muscle relaxants and vecuronium bromide is a nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent.
  • Side effects of Quelicin and Anectine that are different from vecuronium bromide include cardiac arrest, dangerously fast rise in body temperature, arrhythmias, slow or rapid heart rate, high or low blood pressure, high levels of potassium in the blood, prolonged respiratory depression or apnea, increased eye pressure, muscle twitching,  jaw rigidity, postoperative muscle pain, acute kidney failure, excessive salivation,  and rash.
  • Side effects of vecuronium bromide that are different from Quelicin and Anectine include prolonged skeletal muscle weakness to profound and prolonged skeletal muscle paralysis resulting in breathing difficulties.
  • Both Quelicin and Anectine and vecuronium bromide may interact with antibiotics, quinidine, and magnesium salts.
  • Quelicin and Anectine may also interact with promazine, oxytocin, aprotinin, p-adrenergic blockers, procainamide, lidocaine, trimethaphan, lithium carbonate, quinine, chloroquine, diethylether, isoflurane, desflurane, metoclopramide, terbutaline, oral contraceptives, glucocorticoids, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
  • Vecuronium bromide may also interact with succinylcholine, other nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents, inhalational anesthetics, and alkaline solutions.

What Is Quelicin, Anectine?

Quelicin, Anectine (succinylcholine chloride) Injection is a short-acting depolarizing skeletal muscle relaxant used as an adjunct to general anesthesia to facilitate tracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation.

What Is Vecuronium Bromide?

Vecuronium bromide for injection is a nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent indicated as an adjunct to general anesthesia, to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation. Vecuronium bromide is available in generic form.
