Ciclodan (ciclopirox) and Kerydin (tavaborole) topical solutions are antifungal agents indicated as topical treatment in patients with mild to moderate onychomycosis of fingernails and toenails due to Trichophyton rubrum or Trichophyton mentagrophytes.

Common side effects of Ciclodan include:

• redness around or under the nail,
• nail disorders (such as shape change, irritation, ingrown toenail, and discoloration),
• application site reactions, and
• burning of the skin.

Common side effects of Kerydin include:

• ingrown toenail,
• sloughing or peeling of dead skin,
• skin redness, and
• skin inflammation at the application site.

Ciclodan is indicated as topical treatment in immunocompetent patients with mild to moderate onychomycosis of fingernails and toenails without lunula involvement, due to Trichophyton rubrum. The comprehensive management program includes removal of the unattached, infected nails as frequently as monthly, by a health care professional who has special competence in the diagnosis and treatment of nail disorders, including minor nail procedures.

Kerydin is an oxaborole antifungal indicated for the treatment of onychomycosis of the toenails due to Trichophyton rubrum or Trichophyton mentagrophytes.

Apply Ciclopirox Topical Solution, 8%, (Nail Lacquer), once daily (preferably at bedtime) to all affected nails with the applicator brush provided. Apply the lacquer evenly over the entire nail. Where possible, nail lacquer should also be applied to the underside of the nail and to the skin beneath it. Allow lacquer to dry (approximately 30 seconds) before putting on socks or stockings. After applying medication, wait 8 hours before taking a bath or shower.

Apply Kerydin to affected toenails once daily for 48 weeks.

Kerydin should be applied to the entire toenail surface and under the tip of each toenail being treated.

Kerydin is for topical use only and not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use.
