Are Bonsity and Evenity the Same Thing?

Bonsity (teriparatide injection) and Evenity (romosozumab-aqqg) are used to treat postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk for fracture.

Bonsity is also used to increase bone mass in men with primary or hypogonadal osteoporosis at high risk for fracture; and for treatment of men and women with osteoporosis associated with sustained systemic glucocorticoid therapy at high risk for fracture.

Evenity is also used in patients who have failed or are intolerant to other available osteoporosis therapy.

Bonsity and Evenity belong to different drug classes. Bonsity is a parathyroid hormone analog (PTH 134) and Evenity is a sclerostin inhibitor.

Side effects of Bonsity and Evenity that are similar include joint pain, and headache.

Side effects of Bonsity that are different from Evenity include body pain, nausea, runny nose, dizziness, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, cough, and sore throat.

Side effects of Evenity that are different from Bonsity include muscle spasms, swelling of extremities, weakness, neck pain, insomnia, and numbness and tingling sensation.

Bonsity may interact with digoxin.

Evenity may interact with other drugs.

Common side effects of Bonsity include:

  • joint pain,
  • body pain,
  • nausea,
  • runny nose,
  • dizziness,
  • headache,
  • diarrhea,
  • constipation,
  • indigestion,
  • cough, and
  • sore throat

What Are Possible Side Effects of Evenity?

Common side effects of Evenity include:

  • joint pain,
  • headache,
  • muscle spasms,
  • swelling of extremities,
  • weakness,
  • neck pain,
  • insomnia,
  • numbness and
  • tingling sensation

What Is Bonsity?

Bonsity (teriparatide injection) is a parathyroid hormone analog (PTH 1- 34) indicated for treatment of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk for fracture; to increase bone mass in men with primary or hypogonadal osteoporosis at high risk for fracture; and for treatment of men and women with osteoporosis associated with sustained systemic glucocorticoid therapy at high risk for fracture.

What Is Evenity?

Evenity (romosozumab-aqqg) is a sclerostin inhibitor indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk for fracture, defined as a history of osteoporotic fracture, or multiple risk factors for fracture; or patients who have failed or are intolerant to other available osteoporosis therapy.

 

What Drugs Interact With Bonsity?

Bonsity may interact with digoxin. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Bonsity is not recommended for use during pregnancy; it is unknown how it would affect a fetus. It is unknown if Bonsity passes into breast milk. Because of a possible potential for osteosarcoma, breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Bonsity.

What Drugs Interact With Evenity?

Evenity may interact with other drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Evenity is not recommended for use in women of reproductive potential so it is not intended for use by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

 

How Should Bonsity Be Taken?

The recommended dose of Bonsity is 20 mcg subcutaneously once a day. Bonsity may interact with digoxin.

How Should Evenity Be Taken?

A healthcare provider can administer 210 mg Evenity subcutaneously once every month for 12 doses in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Two separate subcutaneous injections are needed to administer the total dose of 210 mg Evenity.
