Anoro Ellipta (umeclidinium and vilanterol) Inhalation Powder and Spiriva HandiHaler (tiotropium bromide) Inhalation Powder are used for maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema.

Anoro Ellipta and Spiriva HandiHaler both contain an anticholinergic. Anoro Ellipta also contains a long acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist (LABA).

Side effects of Anoro Ellipta and Spiriva HandiHaler that are similar include sore throat, constipation, muscle spasms or pain, and vomiting.

Side effects of Anoro Ellipta that are different from Spiriva HandiHaler include sinusitis, respiratory tract infection, diarrhea, pain in extremities, neck pain, chest pain or discomfort, cough, indigestion, abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), weakness, irregular heartbeats, itching, rash, conjunctivitis, palpitations, hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis and hives, changes in taste, tremor, and anxiety.

Side effects of Spiriva HandiHaler that are different from Anoro Ellipta include dry mouth, upset stomach, cold symptoms (stuffy nose, sneezing), and nosebleed.

Both Anoro Ellipta and Spiriva HandiHaler may interact with other anticholinergic drugs.

Anoro Ellipta may also interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), antidepressants, beta-blockers, and diuretics (water pills).

Spiriva HandiHaler may also interact with atropine, belladonna, cimetidine, mepenzolate, methantheline, and propantheline.

Common side effects of Anoro Ellipta include:

• nosebleed, or
• muscle pain.

Tell your doctor if you have any serious side effects of Spiriva HandiHaler including:

• difficult or painful urination, or
• fast heartbeat.

Spiriva HandiHaler (tiotropium bromide) Inhalation Powder is an anticholinergic drug used to prevent bronchospasm (narrowing of the airways in the lungs) in people with bronchitis, emphysema, or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Anoro Ellipta may interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), antidepressants, beta blockers, diuretics, and other anticholinergic drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. During pregnancy, Anoro Ellipta should be used only if prescribed. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before taking Anoro Ellipta or if you become pregnant during treatment. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Spiriva may interact with atropine, belladonna, cimetidine, clidinium, dicyclomine, glycopyrrolate, hyoscyamine, mepenzolate, methantheline, methscopolamine, propantheline, or scopolamine. Tell your doctor all medications you use. During pregnancy, Spiriva should be used only when prescribed. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Anoro Ellipta is administered as 1 inhalation dose once daily by the orally inhaled route only.

The recommended dose of Spiriva HandiHaler is two inhalations of the powder contents of one Spiriva capsule, once-daily, with the HandiHaler device.
