Asparlas vs. Daurismo

Are Asparlas and Daurismo the Same Thing?

Asparlas (calaspargase pegol-mknl) and Daurismo (glasdegib) are anti-cancer (antineoplastic) drugs used to treat different types of leukemia.

Asparlas may also be used to reduce lightheadedness, dizziness, and loss of balance (vertigo) caused by diseases that affect the inner ear.

Asparlas is indicated as a component of a multi-agent chemotherapeutic regimen for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in pediatric and young adult patients age 1 month to 21 years.

Daurismo is indicated, in combination with low-dose cytarabine, for the treatment of newly-diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in adult patients who are 75 years old or older or who have comorbidities that preclude use of intensive induction chemotherapy.

Asparlas and Daurismo are different types of are anti-cancer (antineoplastic) drugs. Asparlas is an asparagine specific enzyme and Daurismo is a hedgehog pathway inhibitor.

Side effects of Asparlas and Daurismo that are similar include diarrhea, shortness of breath, bleeding, pneumonia, and abnormal/irregular heart rate.

Side effects of Asparlas that are different from Daurismo include elevated transaminase, increased bilirubin, pancreatitis, abnormal clotting studies, and hypersensitivity.

Side effects of Daurismo that are different from Asparlas include anemia, fatigue, febrile neutropenia, musculoskeletal pain, nausea, fluid retention/swelling, low blood platelets (thrombocytopenia), decreased appetite, changes in taste, inflammation and ulcers of mucus membranes, constipation, rash, fever, chest pain, muscle spasm, abdominal pain, vomiting, cough, dizziness, headache, low blood sodium (hyponatremia), weight loss, decreased white blood cell count, and kidney problems.

Asparlas may interact with oral contraceptives.

Daurismo may interact with strong CYP3A inhibitors or inducers and QTc prolonging drugs.

Daurismo may interact with strong CYP3A inhibitors or inducers, and QTc prolonging drugs.

How Should Asparlas be Taken?

The recommended dosage of Asparlas is 2,500 units/m2 intravenously no more frequently than every 21 days.

How Should Daurismo be Taken?

The recommended dose of Daurismo is 100 mg orally, once daily.
