Emgality (galcanezumab-gnlm) and Fioricet (butalbital, acetaminophen, and caffeine capsule) are used to treat different types of headaches.

Emgality is indicated for the preventive treatment of migraine in adults.

Fioricet is indicated for relief of the symptom complex of tension (or muscle contraction) headache.

Emgality is a calcitonin-gene related peptide antagonist and Fioricet is a combination of a barbiturate, a non-salicylate analgesic and antipyretic, and a central nervous system stimulant.

Side effects of Emgality that are different from Fioricet include injection site reactions (such as pain, redness, and itching).

Side effects of Fioricet that are different from Emgality include drowsiness, lightheadedness, dizziness, sedation, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and intoxicated feeling.

Emgality may interact with other drugs.

Fioricet may interact with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, other narcotic analgesics, alcohol, general anesthetics, tranquilizers such as chlordiazepoxide, sedative-hypnotics, or other CNS depressants.

Do not stop using Fioricet suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.

The recommended dosage of Emgality is a 240 mg loading dose (administered as two consecutive injections of 120 mg each), followed by monthly doses of 120 mg.

The dose of Fioricet is one or two capsules every four hours. The total daily dosage of Fioricet should not exceed 6 capsules.
