Are Reblozyl and FeRiva the Same Thing?

Reblozyl (luspatercept-aamt) and FeRiva 21/7 (ascorbic acid, zinc glycinate, cyanocobalamin, ferrous asparto glycinate, folic acid, docusate sodium and succinic acid tablet) are used to treat different types of anemia.

Reblozyl is used to treat anemia in adult patients with beta thalassemia who require regular red blood cell (RBC) transfusions.

FeRiva 21/7 is used to improve the nutritional status of patients with iron deficiency.

Reblozyl and FeRiva 21/7 belong to different drug classes. Reblozyl is an erythroid maturation agent and FeRiva 21/7 is a multivitamin/multimineral dietary supplement.

Side effects of Reblozyl that are different from FeRiva include headache, bone pain, joint pain, fatigue, cough, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, nausea, influenza, high blood pressure (hypertension), high uric acid levels in the blood, viral upper respiratory tract infection, and cough.

Side effects of FeRiva that are different from Reblozyl include allergic reactions.

Both Reblozyl and FeRiva may interact with other medicines.

How Should Reblozyl Be Taken?

The recommended starting dose of Reblozyl is 1 mg/kg once every 3 weeks by subcutaneous injection.

How Should FeRiva Be Taken?

The usual dosage of FeRiva 21/7 is one tablet daily with or without food or as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The FeRiva 21/7 Tablets blister pack supplies a 28-day course of iron therapy that consists of 21 red iron tablets and 7 purple placebo tablets. Take 1 red iron tablet daily for 21 days, followed by 1 purple placebo tablet daily for 7 days.
