Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) Extended Release and Norvasc (amlodipine) are indicated for the prevention of angina pectoris.

Norvasc is also prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure.

Imdur and Norvasc belong to different drug classes. Imdur is a vasodilator and Norvasc is a calcium channel blocker (CCB).

Side effects of Imdur and Norvasc that are similar include headache and dizziness.

Side effects of Norvasc that are different from Imdur include swelling (edema) of the ankles or feet, lightheadedness, drowsiness, tired feeling, nausea, abdominal or stomach pain, or flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).

Imdur may interact with sildenafil, other vasodilators, alcohol, calcium channel blockers, and organic nitrates.

Norvasc may interact with nitroglycerin, simvastatin, or any other heart or blood pressure medications.

Norvasc (amlodipine) is a calcium channel blocker (CCB) prescribed for the prevention and treatment of heart pain or chest pain from angina, and for the treatment of high blood pressure.

Imdur may interact with sildenafil, other vasodilators, alcohol, calcium channel blockers, and organic nitrates. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Imdur; it is unknown how it may affect a fetus. It is unknown if Imdur passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Norvasc may interact with other blood pressure medications.

Norvasc may also interact with simvastatin, ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, diltiazem, and cyclosporine, or other heart medications.

The recommended starting dose of Imdur Tablets is 30 mg (given as a single 30 mg tablet or as 1/2 of a 60 mg tablet) or 60 mg (given as a single tablet) once daily. After several days, the dosage may be increased to 120 mg (given as a single 120 mg tablet or as two 60 mg tablets) once daily.

The usual initial antihypertensive oral dose of Norvasc is 5 mg once daily, and the maximum dose is 10 mg once daily. Norvasc dosages may need to be lowered in patients with liver dysfunction.
