Fetroja (cefiderocol) and Macrodantin and Macrobid (nitrofurantoin) are antibiotics used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Fetroja is used to treat complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis caused by susceptible Gram-negative microorganisms.

Fetroja and Macrodantin and Macrobid are different types of antibiotics. Fetroja is a cephalosporin antibiotic and Macrodantin and Macrobid are nitrofuran antibiotics.

Side effects of Fetroja and Macrodantin and Macrobid that are similar include diarrhea, rash, headache, nausea, and vomiting.

Side effects of Fetroja that are different from Macrodantin and Macrobid include infusion site reactions, constipation, candidiasis (oral thrush or vaginal yeast infections), cough, elevations in liver tests, and low blood potassium (hypokalemia).

Side effects of Macrodantin and Macrobid that are different from Fetroja include itching, upset stomach, loss of appetite, rust-colored or brownish urine, and vaginal itching or discharge.

Fetroja may interact with other drugs.

Macrodantin and Macrobid may also interact with antacids, magnesium salicylate, choline magnesium salicylate, and probenecid.

Fetroja (cefiderocol) is a cephalosporin antibacterial used to treat patients 18 years of age or older who have limited or no alternative treatment options, for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis caused by susceptible Gram-negative microorganisms.

Macrodantin, Macrobid (nitrofurantoin) is an antibiotic prescribed to treat or prevent urinary tract infections. Macrodantin is available in generic form.

Fetroja may interact with other medicines.

Macrodantin, Macrobid may also interact with magnesium salicylate or choline magnesium salicylate.

The dose of Fetroja for injection is 2 grams administered every 8 hours by intravenous (IV) infusion over 3 hours in patients with creatinine clearance (CLcr) 60 to 119 mL/min.

Macrodantin, Macrobid should be given with food to improve drug absorption and, in some patients, tolerance. Adults should take 50-100 mg four times a day-the lower dosage level is recommended for uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
