Emgality (galcanezumab-gnlm) and Trokendi XR (topiramate) are used to prevent migraine in adults.
Trokendi XR is also used as initial monotherapy in patients 10 years of age and older with partial onset or primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures and adjunctive therapy in patients 6 years of age and older with partial onset or primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures.
Emgality is a calcitonin-gene related peptide antagonist and Trokendi XR is a sulfamate-substituted monosaccharide.
Side effects of Emgality that are different from Trokendi XR include injection site reactions (such as pain, redness, and itching).
Side effects of Trokendi XR that are different from Emgality include tingling sensations in the arms and legs, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, loss of appetite, changes in taste, weight loss, sleepiness, nervousness, memory problems, insomnia, depression, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, infections, drowsiness, weakness, numbness, psychomotor slowing, loss of coordination, bronchitis, confusion, mood changes, runny nose, leg pain, acne, constipation, rash, itching, dry mouth, urinary problems, chest pain, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), anemia, and shortness of breath.
Emgality may interact with other drugs.
Trokendi XR may interact with alcohol, oral contraceptives, antiepileptic drugs, CNS depressants, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, metformin, and lithium.

What Drugs Interact With Trokendi XR?
Trokendi XR may interact with other seizure medications, other medicines that can make you sleepy (cold or allergy medicine, sedatives, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for depression or anxiety), metformin, and lithium.
Trokendi XR may also interact with alcohol, oral contraceptives, and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.
How Should Emgality Be Taken?
The recommended dosage of Emgality is a 240 mg loading dose (administered as two consecutive injections of 120 mg each), followed by monthly doses of 120 mg.
How Should Trokendi XR Be Taken?
The recommended dose for Trokendi XR monotherapy in adults and pediatric patients 10 years of age and older is 400 mg orally once daily.
