Definition of Laser hair removal

Medically reviewed by Min Clinic Staff | Updated: January 2026

Laser hair removal: a common cosmetic procedure that uses pulses of highly concentrated light beamed into hair follicles for the purpose of removing hair. The pigment in the hair follicles absorbs the light, destroying the hair. Laser hair removal can be used on different areas of the body including the face, legs, arms, bikini line, or other areas. It has the advantage of being able to precisely focus on the area being targeted. Laser hair removal can result in permanent hair loss typically after 3-7 treatment sessions.
