Definition of Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP)

Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP): a rare, often-fatal, autoimmune disease in which a person’s immune system attacks its own tissues causing painful blistering skin and mucous membranes. Paraneoplastic pemphigus is always associated with an underlying cancerous tumor. In a small number of cases, PNP may go away if the underlying cancer is cured.
