Pseudo-Von Graefe’s Sign
Pseudo-Von Graefe’s Sign
Pseudo-von Graefe’s sign is seen on attempted downgaze or adduction of the eye, when there is involuntary retraction or elevation of the upper eyelid (cf. von Graefe’s sign), medial rotation of the eye, and pupillary constriction. This constellation of findings is said to be a lidgaze synkinesis following aberrant regeneration after an oculomotor (III) nerve palsy, usually of traumatic or chronic compressive rather than ischemic origin.
