Priapism
Priapism
Priapism is an unintended, sustained, and usually painful erection of the penis unrelated to sexual activity. It may occur with intramedullary spinal cord lesions (e.g., multiple sclerosis) which damage the lumbosacral erection centres, and has also been reported with lumbar canal spinal stenosis. There are also nonneurological causes, such as hematological conditions (sickle cell anemia, polycythemica rubra vera) which may cause intrapenile thromboses.
