Description of Renal Function Tests
The renal function test may consist of up to four tests: the urine concentration test, the creatinine clearance test, calculation of the renal indices, and the inulin clearance test. These tests reflect glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, renal blood flow, and tubular secretion. Measurement of these separate kidney functions assists in the determination of the origin and degree of renal dysfunction and renal tissue destruction. These tests are limited in their scope to detect early or mild renal disorders. (See individual test listings for more information.)
