Premarin Intravenous (conjugated estrogens) for Injection is a form of a female hormone used to treat abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance in the absence of organic pathology. Premarin Intravenous is indicated for short-term use only, to provide a rapid and temporary increase in estrogen levels. Premarin Intravenous is available in generic form. Common side effects of Premarin Intravenous include:

• headache
• abdominal cramps
• stomach pain
• nervousness
• nausea
• vomiting
• back pain
• joint pain
• irregular vaginal bleeding
• vaginal spotting
• loss of periods or excessively prolonged periods
• breast pain
• breast enlargement or tenderness
• hair loss, and
• changes in sexual drive.

For treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance in the absence of organic pathology the dose of Premarin Intravenous is one 25 mg injection, intravenously or intramuscularly. Premarin Intravenous may interact with blood thinners, rifampin, barbiturates, carbamazepine, griseofulvin, phenytoin, St. John's wort, primidone, erythromycin, ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, and grapefruit juice. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Premarin Intravenous should not be used during pregnancy. Premarin Intravenous may decease the quality and quantity of breast milk produced. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

• signs of a stroke--sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), sudden severe headache, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance;
• signs of a blood clot--sudden vision loss, stabbing chest pain, coughing up blood, pain or warmth in one or both legs;
• swelling, rapid weight gain;
• jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• memory problems, confusion, unusual behavior;
• unusual vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain;
• a lump in your breast; or
• high levels of calcium in your blood--vomiting, constipation, increased thirst or urination, muscle weakness, bone pain, lack of energy.

Common side effects may include:

• swelling;
• hair loss;
• numbness, tingling, burning pain;
• back pain, leg cramps, pain;
• bloating, gas, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;
• dizziness, headache;
• breast pain; or
• vaginal itching or discharge, changes in your menstrual periods, breakthrough bleeding.

Premarin Intravenous for injection is indicated for short-term use. However, the warnings, precautions and adverse reactions associated with oral Premarin treatment should be taken into account.

The following adverse reactions have been identified during post-approval use of oral or intravenous Premarin. Because these reactions are reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure.

Genitourinary system

Abnormal uterine bleeding/spotting.
Dysmenorrhea or pelvic pain.
Increase in size of uterine leiomyomata.
Vaginitis, including vaginal candidiasis.
Change in amount of cervical secretion.
Change in cervical ectropion.
Ovarian cancer.
Endometrial hyperplasia.
Endometrial cancer.

Breasts

Tenderness, enlargement, pain, discharge, galactorrhea.
Fibrocystic breast changes.
Breast cancer.

Cardiovascular

Deep and superficial venous thrombosis.
Pulmonary embolism.
Thrombophlebitis.
Myocardial infarction.
Stroke.
Increase in blood pressure.

Gastrointestinal

Nausea, vomiting.
Abdominal cramps, bloating.
Cholestatic jaundice.
Increased incidence of gallbladder disease.
Pancreatitis.
Enlargement of hepatic hemangiomas.

Central Nervous System

Headache.
