Monistat-Derm Side Effects Center
Monistat-Derm (miconazole nitrate 2%) Cream is an antifungal drug used for topical application in the treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris, and tinea corporis. Monistat-Derm is available in generic form. Side effects of Monistat-Derm Cream include:
- burning,
- stinging,
- swelling,
- irritation,
- redness,
- pimple-like bumps,
- tenderness, or
- flaking of the treated skin
A sufficient dose of Monistat-Derm Cream should be applied to cover affected areas twice daily (morning and evening). Monistat-Derm Cream may interact with other topical medications used at the same time. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Monistat-Derm Cream. It is unknown if Monistat-Derm Cream will harm a fetus. It is unknown if Monistat-Derm Cream passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Although the risk of serious side effects is low when miconazole topical is applied to the skin, side effects can occur if the medicine is absorbed into your bloodstream, including:
- dry mouth, sore tongue, tooth pain, red or swollen gums;
- altered sense of taste;
- nausea, diarrhea; or
- headache.
