Astragalus

Astragalus suggested uses include treating upper respiratory infection, common cold, other infections, and hepatitis.

Other suggested uses for astragalus include treating breast, cervical, and lung cancers (in combo with glossy privet [Ligustrum lucidum]).

There is insufficient reliable evidence to rate astragalus use in breast cancer, lung cancer, hepatitis, and the common cold.

Astragalus is available under the following different brand names: Astragalus membranaceus.

Suggested Dosing

Powder

• 1-30 g/day orally
• Doses greater than 28 g/day not recommended, no additional benefit and might cause immune suppression

Decoction

• 0.5-1 Liter per day (maximum of 120 grams of whole root per liter of water)

Astragalus has no known side effects at recommended doses.

Astragalus may stimulate the immune system so people with autoimmune disease should consult their doctor before use.

Warnings

This medication contains astragalus. Do not take Astragalus membranaceus if you are allergic to astragalus or any ingredients contained in this drug.

Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
