What Is Durlaza?

Durlaza (aspirin) Extended Release is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated to reduce the risk of death and myocardial infarction (MI) in patients with chronic coronary artery disease, such as patients with a history of MI or unstable angina pectoris or with chronic stable angina and to reduce the risk of death and recurrent stroke in patients who have had an ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack.

Dosage for Durlaza

The recommended dose of Durlaza is 162.5 mg per day with a full glass of water at the same time each day.

What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Durlaza?

Durlaza may interact with alcohol, renin-angiotensin system (RAS) inhibitors, anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs, anticonvulsants, methotrexate, and other NSAIDs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.

Durlaza During Pregnancy or Breastfeeding

During pregnancy, Durlaza should only be used if prescribed; it may harm a fetus. Avoid use of Durlaza during the third trimester of pregnancy. Because of the potential for adverse reactions in nursing infants, Durlaza is not recommended for use while breastfeeding.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using aspirin and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • ringing in your ears, confusion, hallucinations, rapid breathing, seizure (convulsions);
  • severe nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain;
  • bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
  • fever lasting longer than 3 days; or
  • swelling, or pain lasting longer than 10 days.

Common side effects may include:

  • upset stomach, heartburn;
  • drowsiness; or
  • mild headache.

Clinical Trials Experience

The following is a list of adverse reactions that have been reported in the literature for products containing low dose aspirin [see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS].

Central Nervous System: Agitation, cerebral edema, coma, confusion, dizziness, headache, lethargy, seizures.

Fluid and Electrolyte: Hyperkalemia, metabolic acidosis, respiratory alkalosis.

Gastrointestinal: Dyspepsia, hepatic enzyme elevation, hepatitis, Reye's Syndrome

Renal: Interstitial nephritis, papillary necrosis, proteinuria, renal insufficiency and failure.
