Mylicon

Mylicon (simethicone) is an over-the-counter (OTC) product that relieves the discomfort of infant gas frequently caused by air swallowing or certain formulas or foods. Mylicon belongs to a class of medications called gastrointestinal agents, which are used to relieve gas.

Mylicon is also available under different brand names including Phazyme, Gas X Extra Strength, Gas X Softgels, Gas X Thin Strips, Children's Gas X Tongue Twisters Thin Strips, Gas X, PediaCare Infant's Gas Relief Drops, and St. Joseph Infant's Gas Relief.

Mylicon works by changing the surface tension of gas bubbles and causing the collapse of foam bubbles, thus allowing easier passage of gas and preventing gas pockets in the gastrointestinal tract of the patient.

Warnings

This medication contains simethicone. Do not take Mylicon if you are allergic to simethicone or any ingredients contained in this drug.

This product should be kept safe and out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

Cautions

Chewable tablets should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing; liquid-filled capsules should not be chewed.

Can cause false-negative gastric guaiac test.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use with caution during pregnancy if benefits outweigh risks. Animal studies show sign of risk and human studies not available or neither animal nor human studies done. Mylicon is not absorbed systemically; it is not expected to be excreted in milk.
