Tremfya vs. Cosentyx

Tremfya (guselkumab) injection and Cosentyx (secukinumab) are monoclonal antibodies used to treat adult patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy.

Side effects of Tremfya and Cosentyx that are similar include upper respiratory infections, diarrhea, and tinea infections (athlete's foot, ringworm, jock itch).

Side effects of Tremfya that are different from Cosentyx include headache, injection site reactions, joint pain, gastroenteritis (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, and fever), and herpes simplex infections.

Side effects of Cosentyx that are different from Tremfya include sore throat and nose, sinus infection (sinusitis), stuffy or runny nose, oral herpes, hives, tonsillitis, oral thrush, impetigo, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ear infection, eye infection or inflammation (conjunctivitis), increased liver transaminases, and low white blood cell count (neutropenia).

Both Tremfya and Cosentyx may interact with "live" vaccines.

Tremfya may also interact with CYP450 substrates.

Cosentyx may also interact with warfarin and cyclosporine.

Common side effects of Tremfya include:

Tremfya (guselkumab) injection, for subcutaneous use is an interleukin-23 blocker indicated for the treatment of adult patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy.

Cosentyx (secukinumab) for Injection is a human interleukin-17A antagonist used to treat moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adult patients who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy.

Tremfya may interact with "live" vaccines and CYP450 substrates. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use and all vaccines you recently received. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Tremfya; it is unknown how it would affect a fetus. Human IgG antibodies are known to cross the placental barrier; therefore, Tremfya may be transmitted from the mother to the developing fetus. It is unknown if Tremfya passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Cosentyx may interact with warfarin, cyclosporine, or "live" vaccines. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use and all vaccines you recently received. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Cosentyx. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

The dose of Tremfya is 100 mg administered by subcutaneous injection at Week 0, Week 4 and every 8 weeks thereafter.

The recommended dose of Cosentyx is 300 mg by subcutaneous injection at Weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 followed by 300 mg every 4 weeks. Each 300 mg dose is given as 2 subcutaneous injections of 150 mg.
