    What Is Avita Cream?

    Avita Cream (tretinoin) is a topical retinoid indicated for topical application in the treatment of acne vulgaris.

    What Are Side Effects of Avita Cream?

    Common side effects of Avita Cream include:

    • skin redness,
    • swelling,
    • blistering, or
    • crusting,
    • temporary skin discoloration, and
    • warmth or tingling at the application site.

    Dosage for Avita Cream

    Avita Cream should be applied as a once a day dose, in the evening, to the skin where acne lesions appear, using enough to cover the entire affected area lightly.

    What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Avita Cream?

    Avita Cream may interact with other topical medication, medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers, soaps and cosmetics that have a strong drying effect, and products with high concentrations of alcohol, astringents, spices or lime, and preparations containing sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.

    Avita Cream During Pregnancy or Breastfeeding

    Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Avita Cream; it may harm a fetus. It is unknown if Avita Cream passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

    Avita Cream Consumer Information

    Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

    Call your doctor at once if you have:

    • severe burning, stinging, or irritation of treated skin;
    • severe skin dryness; or
    • severe redness, swelling, blistering, peeling, or crusting.

    Your skin may be more sensitive to weather extremes such as cold and wind while using this medicine.

    Common side effects may include:

    • skin pain, redness, burning, itching, or irritation;
    • sore throat;
    • mild warmth or stinging where the medicine was applied; or
    • changes in color of treated skin.

    SIDE EFFECTS

    The skin of certain sensitive individuals may become excessively red, edematous, blistered, or crusted. If these effects occur, the medication should either be discontinued until the integrity of the skin is restored, or the medication dosing frequency should be adjusted temporarily to a level the patient can tolerate. However, efficacy has not been established for lower dosing frequencies. True contact allergy to topical tretinoin is rarely encountered. Temporary hyper- or hypopigmentation has been reported with repeated application of AVITA® Cream. Some individuals have been reported to have heightened susceptibility to sunlight while under treatment with AVITA® Cream. Adverse effects of AVITA® Cream have been reversible upon discontinuation of therapy (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION).
