Aquasol A Parenteral (water-miscible vitamin A palmitate) is vitamin A used to treat vitamin A deficiency. Aquasol A usually has few to no side effects when used in recommended doses. Some side effects of Aquasol A Parenteral may include:
- tiredness,
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- decreased appetite,
- irritability,
- headache,
- dryness or cracking of the lips or skin, or hair loss.
The adult dose of Aquasol A is 100,000 Units daily for three days followed by 50,000 daily for two weeks. Pediatric dose for children 1 to 8 years old is 17,500 to 35,000 Units daily for 10 days. Infant dose is 7,500 to 15,000 Units daily for 10 days. Aquasol A may interact with oral birth control pills, cholestyramine, or mineral oil. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. During pregnancy, Aquasol A should be used only if prescribed. Consult your doctor before taking vitamin A supplements. Although some vitamin A is necessary for the normal development of a baby, doses in excess of the U.S. recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of 5,000 USP units per day may cause birth defects. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Aquasol A Consumer Information
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- fever, sweating, unusual tiredness;
- mood changes;
- vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite;
- changes in your menstrual periods;
- confusion or feeling irritable;
- double vision;
- bleeding gums, mouth pain;
- a seizure; or
- hair loss, peeling skin, cracked skin around your mouth, or skin discoloration.
Taking high doses of vitamin A may increase the risk of osteoporosis and hip fracture, especially in older adults and postmenopausal women.
In children, high doses of vitamin A may cause:
- growth problems in a child;
- severe drowsiness, loss of consciousness;
- vision problems;
- fever, chills;
- cough with mucus, chest pain, trouble breathing;
- vomiting, diarrhea; or
- peeling skin.
Less serious side effects may be more likely, and you may have none at all.
