What Is Albuminex?

Albuminex (albumin human solution) is a 5% albumin solution indicated for adults and children for hypovolemia, ascites, hypoalbuminemia including from burns, acute nephrosis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and cardiopulmonary bypass.

  • low blood pressure (hypotension),
  • increased heart rate,
  • fever,
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • shortness of breath/bronchospasm,

The concentration of Albuminex used, its dosage, and infusion rate should be adjusted to the patient's individual requirements and clinical indication.

Albuminex In Children

There are no human or animal data regarding pediatric use of Albuminex. Use only if clearly needed.

What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Albuminex?

Do not mix Albuminex with blood, blood components, protein hydrolysates, alcoholic solutions or other medicinal products.

Albuminex During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Albuminex; it is unknown how it would affect a fetus. There is no information regarding the presence of Albuminex in breast milk, the effects on the breastfed infant, or the effects on milk production. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Albuminex Consumer Information

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; cough, difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Tell your caregiver right away if you have:

  • a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
  • weak or shallow breathing;
  • throbbing headache, blurred vision, buzzing in your ears;
  • anxiety, confusion, sweating, pale skin; or
  • severe shortness of breath, wheezing, gasping for breath, cough with foamy mucus, chest pain, and fast or uneven heart rate.

Common side effects may include:

  • nausea, vomiting;
  • fever, chills;
  • fast heart rate;
  • mild rash; or
  • flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).

General

In general, human albumin solutions are well-tolerated and no specific, clinically relevant alterations in organ function or coagulopathy have been substantiated.26

The most common adverse reactions associated with infusion of human albumin solutions are rigors, hypotension/decreased BP, tachycardia/increased heart rate, pyrexia, feeling cold (chills), nausea, vomiting, dyspnea/bronchospasm, rash/pruritus. Reactions usually resolve when the infusion is slowed or stopped.

Anaphylaxis, with or without shock, may occur and in this situation, stop the infusion.

Clinical Trials Experience

No clinical studies were done using ALBUMINEX 5%.
