Invega (paliperidone) and Seroquel (quetiapine) are antipsychotic medications used to treat schizophrenia.

Seroquel is also used to treat major depression and bipolar disorder.

Side effects of Invega and Seroquel that are similar include drowsiness, dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, abdominal/stomach pain, upset stomach, nausea, weight gain, dry mouth, breast swelling or discharge, or changes in menstrual periods.

Side effects of Invega that are different from Seroquel include cough, restlessness, shaking (tremors), blurred vision, decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm.

Side effects of Seroquel that are different from Invega include mood or behavior changes, constipation, vomiting, tiredness, trouble sleeping, sore throat, or increased appetite.

Both Invega and Seroquel may interact with antibiotics, antidepressants, heart rhythm medicines, medicines to treat psychiatric disorders, anti-malaria medications, blood pressure medications, or other drugs that make you sleepy or slow your breathing (sleeping pills, narcotics, prescription cough medicines, muscle relaxers, or medicines for anxiety, depression, or seizures).

Invega may also interact with arsenic trioxide, droperidol, medicine to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting, medicines to treat Parkinson's disease, or migraine headache medicines.

Seroquel may also interact with medicines to treat cancer or HIV/AIDS, antibiotics, antifungals, heart medicines, St. John's wort, or tuberculosis medicines.

Common side effects of Invega include:

• drowsiness,
• dizziness,
• headache,
• lightheadedness,
• abdominal/stomach pain,
• upset stomach,
• nausea,
• weight gain,
• cough,
• dry mouth,
• breast swelling or discharge,
• changes in menstrual periods,
• restlessness,
• shaking (tremor),
• blurred vision,
• decreased sex drive,
• impotence, or
• difficulty having an orgasm.

Tell your doctor if you have serious side effects of Invega including:

• difficulty swallowing,
• muscle spasms,
• mental/mood changes, or
• signs of infection (such as fever, persistent sore throat),
• high fever,
• sweating,
• confusion,
• fast or uneven heartbeats,
• feeling like you might pass out,
• tremors (uncontrolled shaking),
• trouble swallowing,
• sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body,
• sudden and severe headache, or problems with vision, speech, or balance,
• fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, or
• white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips.

Common side effects of Seroquel include:

• fever,
• hot flashes,
• sensitivity to heat,
• sweating,
• headache,
• nervousness,
• irritability,
• nausea,
• sleep problems (insomnia),
• changes in appetite or changes in weight,
• changes in menstrual perdiods,
• and temporary hair loss.

Invega (paliperidone) extended-release tablets are indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and adolescents (12-17 years of age)

Seroquel (quetiapine) is a psychotropic medication used to treat schizophrenia in adults and children who are at least 13 years old. Seroquel is also used in the treatment of major depression and bipolar disorder.

If you are taking, or plan to take, any prescription or over-the-counter drugs, as there is a potential for interactions.

Do not drink alcohol while taking Invega.

Seroquel may interact with many different drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.

Invega should be taken with water. Tablets should not be chewed, divided, or crushed.

Dosing preparations are 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, and 400 mg tablets.
