Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) Extended Release and Ranexa (ranolazine) are indicated for the prevention of angina pectoris.

Imdur and Ranexa belong to different drug classes. Imdur is a vasodilator and Ranexa is an anti-anginal medication.

Side effects of Imdur and Ranexa that are similar include headache and dizziness.

Side effects of Ranexa that are different from Imdur include spinning sensation, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, dry mouth, weakness, ringing in your ears, swelling in hands/ankles/feet, slow/fast/irregular heartbeats, tremors, blood in the urine, and shortness of breath.

Imdur may interact with sildenafil, other vasodilators, alcohol, calcium channel blockers, and organic nitrates.

Ranexa may interact with grapefruit and grapefruit juice, antibiotics, antifungals, other medicines to treat heart disease, cholesterol-lowering medicines, diabetes medications, medicines to prevent organ transplant rejection, medicines to treat a mental illness, or medicines to treat or prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy or radiation.

Common side effects of Imdur include:

Common side effects of Ranexa include:

• headache,
• swelling (edema) of the ankles or feet,
• dizziness,
• lightheadedness,
• drowsiness,
• tired feeling,
• nausea,
• abdominal or stomach pain, or
• flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).

Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) Extended Release Tablets are a vasodilator indicated for the prevention of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease.

Ranexa (methocarbamol) is a muscle relaxant used together with rest and physical therapy to treat skeletal muscle conditions such as pain or injury.

Imdur may interact with sildenafil, other vasodilators, alcohol, calcium channel blockers, and organic nitrates. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Imdur; it is unknown how it may affect a fetus. It is unknown if Imdur passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Ranexa may interact with other medicines that can make you sleepy or slow your breathing (such as cold or allergy medicines, narcotic pain medicines, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicines for depression, seizure, anxiety), and heart or blood pressure medications. Ranexa may also interact with carbamazepine, diazepam, fluoxetine, olanzapine, fluvoxamine, omeprazole, rifampin, or medications to treat Parkinson's disease.

The recommended starting dose of Imdur Tablets is 30 mg (given as a single 30 mg tablet or as 1/2 of a 60 mg tablet) or 60 mg (given as a single tablet) once daily. After several days, the dosage may be increased to 120 mg (given as a single 120 mg tablet or as two 60 mg tablets) once daily.

The recommended starting dose of Entresto is 49/51 mg twice-daily. Double the dose of Entresto after 2 to 4 weeks to the target maintenance dose of 97/103 mg twice-daily, as tolerated by the patient.
