What is Lovenox?

Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium) Injection is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) used to prevent blood clots that are sometimes called deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can lead to blood clots in the lungs. A DVT can occur after certain types of surgery, or in people who are bed-ridden due to a prolonged illness. Lovenox is also used to prevent blood vessel complications in people with certain types of angina (chest pain) or heart attacks called non-Q-wave myocardial infarction or ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.

What is Xarelto?

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a Factor Xa inhibitor indicated for the prevention of deep vein thrombosis which may lead to pulmonary embolism in patients undergoing knee or hip replacement surgery.

 

What Drugs Interact With Lovenox?

Lovenox may interact with aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and other medicines to prevent blood clots.

Lovenox may also interact with dextran.

What Drugs Interact With Xarelto?

Xarelto may also interact with dexamethasone, barbiturates, seizure medications, and medicines to treat narcolepsy.

 

How Should Lovenox Be Taken?

Dose of Lovenox depends on the condition of the patient and the type of surgery being performed.

How Should Xarelto Be Taken?

Take Xarelto exactly as your healthcare provider tells you to take it.

Your healthcare provider will tell you how much Xarelto to take and when to take it.

Your healthcare provider may change your dose if needed.

Take Xarelto about 1 hour before sexual activity. You may take Xarelto between 30 minutes to 4 hours before sexual activity if needed.

Xarelto can be taken with or without food. If you take Xarelto after a high fat meal (such as a cheeseburger and french fries), Xarelto may take a little longer to start working

Do not take Xarelto more than 1 time a day.

If you accidentally take too much Xarelto, call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away.
