Xcopri vs. Depakote

Are Xcopri and Depakote the Same Thing?

Xcopri (cenobamate tablets) and Depakote (divalproex sodium) are antiepileptic drugs (AED) used to treat epilepsy.

Xcopri is used to treat partial-onset seizures in adult patients.

Depakote is also used to treat manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder, and migraine headaches.

Side effects of Xcopri and Depakote that are similar include drowsiness and double vision/vision changes.

Side effects of Xcopri that are different from Depakote include dizziness, fatigue, and headache.

Side effects of Depakote that are different from Xcopri include weakness, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhea, constipation, mood swings, changes in menstrual periods, enlarged breasts, weight changes, agitation, tremor (shaking), unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth, and hair loss.

Both Xcopri and Depakote may interact with other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs).

Xcopri may also interact with CYP2B6 and CYP3A substrates, CYP2C19 substrates, oral contraceptives, other drugs that shorten the QT interval, alcohol, and other CNS depressants.

Depakote may also interact with ritonavir, phenobarbital, primidone, aspirin, carbapenem antibiotics, felbamate, rifampin, amitriptyline, nortriptyline, carbamazepine, clonazepam, diazepam, ethosuximide, lamotrigine, tolbutamide, warfarin, zidovudine, lorazepam, and topiramate.
