Nurtec ODT vs. Ajovy

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) and Ajovy (fremanezumab-vfrm) are calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor antagonists used to treat or prevent migraine in adults.

Nurtec ODT is used for acute treatment of migraine with or without aura and Ajovy is used for the preventive treatment of migraine.

Side effects of Nurtec ODT that are different from Ajovy include nausea and hypersensitivity reactions (including shortness of breath and severe rash).

Side effects of Ajovy that are different from Nurtec ODT include injection site reactions (pain, swelling, and redness).

Nurtec ODT may interact with strong and moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors, strong and moderate CYP3A inducers, and inhibitors of P-gp or BCRP.

Ajovy may interact with other drugs.

The recommended dose of Nurtec ODT is 75 mg taken orally, as needed.

Two subcutaneous dosing options of Ajovy are available to administer the recommended dosage: 225 mg monthly, or 675 mg every 3 months (quarterly). The 675 mg quarterly dosage is administered as three consecutive injections of 225 mg each.
