Mayzent (siponimod) and Plegridy (peginterferon beta-1a) Autoinjector are used to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS).

Mayzent and Plegridy belong to different drug classes. Mayzent is a sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator and Plegridy is a beta interferon.

Side effects of Mayzent and Plegridy that are similar include headache and nausea.

Side effects of Mayzent that are different from Plegridy include high blood pressure (hypertension), increased liver transaminase, falls, pain and swelling in extremities, dizziness, diarrhea, and slow heart rate.

Side effects of Plegridy that are different from Mayzent include injection site reactions (redness, itching, pain, swelling, warmth, rash, bruising), flu-like illness, fever, muscle or joint pain, chills, weakness, and vomiting.

Mayzent may interact with "live" vaccines, cancer medications, immune-modulating drugs, immunosuppressive therapies, anti-arrhythmics, QT prolonging drugs, calcium channel blockers, other drugs that may decrease heart rate, beta-blockers, fluconazole, rifampin, carbamazepine, modafinil, and efavirenz.

Plegridy may interact with other drugs.

Common side effects of Mayzent include:

Mayzent (siponimod) is a sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), to include clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease, in adults.

Plegridy (peginterferon beta-1a) Autoinjector is an interferon beta-1a used to treat patients with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis.

Mayzent may interact with:

• "live" vaccines,
• cancer medications,
• immune-modulating drugs,
• immunosuppressive therapies,
• anti-arrhythmics,
• QT prolonging drugs,
• calcium channel blockers,
• other drugs that may decrease heart rate,
• beta-blockers,
• fluconazole,
• rifampin,
• carbamazepine,
• modafinil, or
• efavirenz.

Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. During pregnancy, Plegridy should be used only if prescribed. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Initiate Mayzent with a 5-day titration. The recommended maintenance dosage of Mayzent is 2 mg.

The recommended dosage of Plegridy is 125 micrograms injected subcutaneously every 14 days.
