Incruse Ellipta vs. Atrovent HFA

Incruse Ellipta (umeclidinium) Inhalation Powder and Atrovent HFA (ipratropium bromide HFA) are anticholinergic drugs used for maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema.

Side effects of Incruse Ellipta and Atrovent HFA that are similar include stuffy nose, cough, stomach pain or upset, and constipation.

Side effects of Incruse Ellipta that are different from Atrovent HFA include upper respiratory infection, runny nose, sore throat, joint pain, muscle pain, tooth pain, bruising or dark areas of skin, chest pain, and fast or irregular heartbeat.

Side effects of Atrovent HFA that are different from Incruse Ellipta include headache, dry mouth, hoarseness, sinus pain, nausea, back pain, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, blurred vision, and dizziness.

Incruse Ellipta may interact with other anticholinergic drugs.

Atrovent HFA may interact with cold or allergy medicines, medicines to treat Parkinson's disease; medicines to treat stomach problems, motion sickness, or irritable bowel syndrome; medicines to treat overactive bladder; other bronchodilators; and medicines to treat depression, anxiety, mood disorders, or mental illness.

Common side effects of Incruse Ellipta include:

• upper respiratory infection,
• stuffy or runny nose,
• cough,
• sore throat,
• joint pain,
• muscle pain,
• tooth pain,
• stomach pain,
• bruising or dark areas of skin,
• chest pain,
• fast or irregular heartbeat, and
• constipation.

Common side effects of Atrovent HFA include:

• headache
• dry mouth
• hoarseness
• cough
• stuffy nose
• sinus pain
• nausea
• upset stomach
• constipation
• back pain
• fever
• chills
• body aches
• flu symptoms
• blurred vision, and
• dizziness

Tell your doctor if you experience serious side effects of Atrovent HFA HFA including bronchospasm (wheezing, chest tightness, trouble breathing), eye pain, seeing halos around lights, pain or burning when you urinate, urinating less than usual or not at all, or worsening of your symptoms.

Incruse Ellipta (umeclidinium) Inhalation Powder is an anticholinergic drug used for the long-term, once-daily, maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema.

Atrovent HFA is an anticholinergic indicated for the maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Incruse Ellipta may interact with other anticholinergic drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. During pregnancy, Incruse Ellipta should be taken only if prescribed. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Atrovent HFA may interact with other bronchodilators. Atrovent HFA may also interact with bladder or urinary medicines, cold or allergy medicines that contain an antihistamine, medications for Parkinson's disease, or medications to treat excess stomach acid, stomach ulcer, motion sickness, or irritable bowel syndrome.

Incruse Ellipta (umeclidinium 62.5 mcg) should be administered as 1 inhalation dose once daily by the orally inhaled route only. Incruse Ellipta may interact with other anticholinergic drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.

For patients aged 12 years and older, the dosage of Atrovent HFA is 1 inhalation twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart.
