Are Hizentra and Xembify the Same Thing?

Hizentra Immune Globulin Subcutaneous (Human) 20% Liquid and Xembify (immune globulin subcutaneous, human–klhw) are immune globulins used to treat primary immunodeficiency (PI) in adults and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older.

Side effects of Hizentra and Xembify that are similar include infusion site reactions (redness, pain, swelling, bruising, hard lump itching, firmness, scabbing), cough, and diarrhea.

Side effects of Hizentra that are different from Xembify include headache, fatigue, back pain, nausea, pain in extremities, rash, itching, vomiting, upper abdominal pain, migraine, pain, joint pain, bruising, rash, and hives.

Both Hizentra and Xembify may interact with live virus vaccines, such as measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella.

What Are Possible Side Effects of Hizentra?

Common side effects of Hizentra include:

  • local injection site reactions (swelling redness heat pain and itching)
  • headache,
  • diarrhea,
  • fatigue,
  • back pain,
  • nausea,
  • pain in extremities,
  • cough,
  • rash,
  • itching,
  • vomiting ,
  • abdominal pain (upper),
  • migraine ,
  • pain,
  • joint pain,
  • bruising,
  • rash, and
  • hives

What Drugs Interact With Hizentra?

Hizentra may interact with live virus vaccines. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use and all vaccines you recently received. During pregnancy Hizentra should be administered only if prescribed.

Xembify may interact with live virus vaccines, such as measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Xembify; it is unknown how it would affect a fetus. It is unknown if Xembify passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

The dose of Hizentra is individualized based on the patient's clinical response to Hizentra therapy and serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) trough levels.
