Are Evenity and Forteo the Same Thing?

Evenity (romosozumab-aqqg) and Forteo (teriparatide [rDNA origin]) Injection are used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk for fracture.

Forteo is also used to treat osteoporosis in men who have a high risk of bone fracture.

Evenity and Forteo belong to different drug classes. Evenity is a sclerostin inhibitor and Forteo is a man-made form of parathyroid hormone.

Side effects of Evenity and Forteo that are similar include joint pain, headache, muscle cramps or spasms, and neck pain.

Side effects of Evenity that are different from Forteo include swelling of extremities, weakness, insomnia, and numbness and tingling sensation.

Side effects of Forteo that are different from Evenity include leg cramps, cough, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and injection site reactions (pain, swelling, bruising, itching, or redness).

Evenity may interact with other drugs.

Forteo may interact with digoxin.

What Is Evenity?

Evenity (romosozumab-aqqg) is a sclerostin inhibitor indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk for fracture, defined as a history of osteoporotic fracture, or multiple risk factors for fracture; or patients who have failed or are intolerant to other available osteoporosis therapy.

What Is Forteo?

Forteo (teriparatide [rDNA origin]) Injection is a man-made form of parathyroid hormone that exists naturally in the body used to treat osteoporosis in men and women who have a high risk of bone fracture.

 

What Drugs Interact With Evenity?

Evenity may interact with digoxin. Tell your doctor all medication

Evenity may interact with other drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Evenity is not recommended for use in women of reproductive potential so it is not intended for use by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How Should Evenity Be Taken?

A healthcare provider can administer 210 mg Evenity subcutaneously once every month for 12 doses in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Two separate subcutaneous injections are needed to administer the total dose of 210 mg Evenity.

How Should Forteo Be Taken?

The recommended dose of Forteo is 20 mcg subcutaneously once a day.
