Definition of Fibromatosis

Fibromatosis is a condition in which fibrous overgrowths of skin and subcutaneous connective tissue develop tumors called fibromas. Fibromas are usually benign (non-cancerous). Fibromatosis can occur as a feature of many different conditions, and the term fibromatosis implies that multiple fibromas are present. The exact cause of fibromatosis is not understood. Depending on the condition that causes fibromatosis, the location in the body may vary.
