Definition of Colinearity
Colinearity: 1. In general, the arrangement of one sequence in the same linear order as another sequence.
2. In developmental genetics, the arrangement of genes on chromosomes in the same order as they are activated along the body axis during development, a principle discovered in 1957 by Edward Lewis.
3. In molecular genetics, the correspondence between the linear order of the nucleotide codons in the DNA, the sequence of messenger RNA, and the order of amino acids in the protein.
