Definition of EPO test
EPO test: A test of the hormone EPO (erythropoietin) level in the blood.
Testing EPO blood levels may be of value in:
- evaluating anemia (low red blood cell count).
- or polycythemia (high red blood cell count). Too little EPO might be responsible for too few red blood cells (anemia).
- Too much EPO might cause too many red blood cells (polycythemia).
