Definition of Myonecrosis

Myonecrosis: necrosis (death) of individual muscle fibers in a localized area due to infection, trauma, or loss of blood supply. Common causes of myonecrosis include complications from diabetes (Diabetic muscle infarction or spontaneous diabetic myonecrosis) and infection with Clostridium bacteria (clostridial myonecrosis or gas gangrene).
