Definition of Sweet Syndrome (Acute Febrile Neutrophilic Dermatosis)

Sweet syndrome (acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis): This rare skin condition develops after an infection, illness, or as a reaction to medications. Sweet syndrome can also occur as a reaction to certain cancers, and medical professionals do not know its exact cause. It causes the rapid onset of painful red bumps on the trunk, head, arms, legs, or neck. Other symptoms and signs can include fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, joint pain, and the presence of an elevated number of a white blood cells type (neutrophils). The red bumps can form painful patches. It is most common in women and in people aged 30-60.
