Definition of Ring avulsion

Ring avulsion: An injury to the finger that occurs as a result of wearing a ring. Sudden trauma to the finger with a ring when the ring is forcefully pulled causes the ring to pull on the tissues, leading to skin and soft tissue damage. Ring avulsion injuries can have varying degrees of severity, ranging from bruising to traumatic amputation of the finger. Sometimes the injury is so severe that the finger must be surgically amputated. Such injuries often occur when working with machinery while wearing a ring.
